Partial Solar Eclipse
As was planned earlier, a small session for viewing the partial solar eclipse was held on the terrace of the Physics Department.
The telescope, camera and other necessary equipment were set and ready by around 2:25PM local time as a small group eagerly awaited the clearing of clouds. The group gradually grew in number as a few more enthusiastic people turned up. And finally around 2:35PM the Sun broke out! The eclipse was projected through the telescope eyepiece onto a big, plane cardboard for everyone to see. The crowd enjoyed the Moon slowly eating away parts of the Sun. The eclipse reached its peak at around 3:19PM and the proceedings were promptly captured in a camera.
There was also quite some time left to have fun! From making the Sun look like a bird-pecked mango to drawing surprised worms coming out of the mango - all sorts of crazy concepts were thought of and put into practice too!
The unusually large crowd slowly dispersed and the session was drawn to a close around 4:00PM.
